Concerns about the group/Wednesday meeting thoughts

On Wednesday as it is wellbeing week, we decided as a group that we would come into uni to decide on things for the project, as it is getting closer to deadline and it feels as if we have little to no work done.

Last week we decided to set a task for us all to bring in on Wednesday, it was to have at least 10 sketches that we can use to decorate the boxes on our installation. I completed these drawings and have attached them at the bottom. When I got in everyone apart from Glenn had completed these drawings, and charlotte had only done 4 when we specified 10 minimum.

Charlotte also said something suspicious, she said ‘I only did the soap because I thought it was cute’ which when I’m drawing, I wouldn’t even think one of my drawings is going to be cute until I’ve done it. Also, the theme we were going for was climate change, recycling etc, and soap doesn’t exactly strike me as fitting with this theme.

She also sent us the illustrator file and it was laid out really odd, as somethings were grouped and others weren’t, it was very odd to look at, and looked vastly different from any of the rest of the groups formatting. So, since we have noticed her plagiarising work in the past, we decided to google the images, we immediately found everyone of her drawings online, except the leaf, each of these drawings were off of copyrighted sites. Plagiarism is not okay in any way, as it is legally and morally wrong.

To combat this issue, we decided as a group that we would tell Juan as he would be able to sort the whole ordeal without there being any confrontation between us. We decided that I would speak to him, as I’ve had a history of her taking credit for my work, as I was the one that was most willing to speak up against her. Juan said that he would speak to her and do a lecture on ethics within the industry.

We have also had an issue with her in the past due to when we do presentations, she never contributes to the presentation at all. For instance, with the first Home presentation we all worked on the slides separately on google slides, and since I had cheerleading from 7pm-9pm the night before I stayed up until 3am drawing characters so there would be some visual aids for the presentation.

Then mike gave us these forms that we had to fill in to rate how we felt the presentation went, and she rated team work a 2 out of 10, and when mike asked about that score, she tried to make it seem like we weren’t including her, when we gave her every opportunity to add work and she did not take one of them.

Honestly I’m trying to be diplomatic but this behaviour is not on, even last year when I was in a group with her I did all the work and she took all the credit for it.

What I would change after doing the presentation

I have decided since I have now done the presentation and finalised the prototype that I would think of somethings that I would change and improve since hearing HOME's feedback and how I personally feel about the finished product. The first thing I would change is the animations, I would remake them so they had more things happening, maybe remove the black background on the live statistics. I would honestly just make them look more professional, as they look very amateur at the moment. The next thing I would do is I would add some sound to the video, this sound could be optional so if the screens are in a public space it would be silent, but if it is in a small confined space where it is okay to have sound it could be played, this is because it was quite dull and empty feeling without the sound. The kinds of sounds I would have is like for each different animation sounds that go along with it, such as for the plastic in oceans have water and bubbles popping, or for air pollutio...

Writing the research and design proposal document

After the presentation was finished we focused on the research and design proposal document. Since I had already almost finished my blog and other people in the group had not, I decide that I would offer to write most of it. I began by breaking down the topics that were specified in the brief. These were break down of the brief/what they wanted, sources of inspiration/design stylings, evolution of the project, final design proposal/idea, evaluation of work.  Then a few days later I broke down the sections further, this was so we would have more specific sections so its easier to write for. These were: Break down of brief/research on HOME, What HOME wanted/needed, Research into climate crisis, Sources of inspiration, Style sheet, Idea evolution, What we did, How we did it, What we wanted to get out of this project, What we think of our work, How we worked together, Things we would change since the presentation, Blog links. This left 178 words per topic. I began working o...

Style sheet

This was for the beginning of this blog, but Blogger deleted the post :( I put together a quick style sheet for our HOME project, this is just to help us ensure we're all using the same colours, fonts, and stylings for drawings and animations. I decided to do this as it is useful to show that we have thought about the stylings, and it will show the style for the research and design booklet without using any words. For the colour theme we used HOME's original colours, but added black and white. I added the 'drawing style' section as it helps us to stick with the stylings of the drawing. I also added the 'Shapes' section, as when I was working in industry we did not have this section on the style sheet and it really confused me and the marketing team as we did not know what style of shapes they wanted us to use. Also if we did not have this section, it could mean that there is inconsistencies in shapes over the prototype, such as if we use hexagons for one...
