feedback for presentation from Mike

Mike sent us an assessment sheet with his feedback for our presentation. The sheet has ratings by number, 10 being high and 1 being low, as well as brief comments from Mike. Here is what it has told me. For knowledge and understanding of core materials we got a 7, which is slightly above average. We got the same score for Extent, quality and appropriateness of research, with Mike commenting 'Research evident but needs greater reflection on the presentations given by HOME'. As well as Conceptual grasp of issues, quality of arguments and ability to answer questions, where Mike commented 'Clear grasp of sustainability issues - not so much about issue of 'Perception'. For design concepts we got a 6, which is average, and Mike commented 'good initial ideas but underdeveloped'. We also got a 6 for evolution of the ideas, with Mike saying 'Evidence of lots of initial ideas' 'But evolution of ideas was lacking visually'. In the Quality of manag...

Newest idea

We wanted to create a trail of characters that children could follow. This trail would lead to the exhibition space, which will be made into a children’s area when no exhibitions are live.  We came up with the idea of creating a bee trail that goes around the building, that has a corresponding app that people can use to train said bees as well as have their membership card, as well as other stuff.  The bees would be placed around Home, as to make people travel around the building. These bees could be sitting in the holes in the concrete walls. Bumble bees not worker or honey as they are the cutest.

Hireable bikes

Since talking to HOME, I wanted to look into hireable bikes. This is because HOME mentioned that one of the biggest issues that they want to tackle is transport. When I spoke to people about hireable bikes they said that Manchester used to have them, but no longer have them. Since Manchester no longer has them I decided to do some research into what happened to the bikes here, and the ones in London as they seem to have worked a lot better than here. London:  I found this article on the bikes in London, and people ranking the different types. This article is useful as it shows all the different types of bikes, and what is good and bad about each type. https://londonist.com/london/transport/ranking-all-of-london-s-hire-bikes The bike types are: - Santander Cycles - Mobike - Ofo - Lime - Jump - Freebike Mobike first came to London in September 2017, and have two types of bikes, their regular and their lite version. Ofo is no longer in London, this is due to people t...

Home's training and educational

When we were at HOME they mentioned that they are a training and education centre as well as an art centre. I had not heard of this yet so I decided to do some research into it, to see what they meant as well as if we could include this within our project. On their website under the workshops page they listed the workshops that they have for the next 7 days. Some of their workshops coming up include 'Young identity" a workshop for poets, writers and spoken word artists to go to learn and improve upon their work, 'AMP Workshop' which is an accessible music workshop, 'French GSCE study morning' this if to help aid people that are studying French at GCSE in a fun and educational way, 'Painting Live to Music Workshop' this is where the participants paint by the music. I then looked at the web page for the 'Young Identity at HOME' to see how they lay out the page and what information they show. The site was very informative on when the event ha...

Home's festivals

When we toured HOME they mentioned that they host festivals, so I decided to do some research into these to see what they meant by this and whether it may be something that we can add to our project. I began by looking at their events page on their website, to see if they had anything on there that's coming up soon. They only had the shows and performances that are coming up soon. Then I looked at their festival page off their website, they had two of their upcoming festivals for 2020. These were the 'push festival 2020' and the 'viva! Spanish & Latin American festival 2020'. This is what it said on the 'Push festival' page: "Push Festival 2020 Part of:  Film Producers Meet-up  , Our new Jan – Jul 2020 theatre season  , Our new Sep 2019 – Feb 2020 Theatre Season Push Festival returns for our annual celebration of the North West’s creative talents. Over two weeks, our stages, screens and spaces will be dedicated to showcasing fa...

Home visit notes

Home visit notes (09/10/2019) 5 trained beekeepers. They are a charity, supported by the council and the arts council. Everything they do has to do with them being a charity, they have to educate about art. Have art exhibition spaces for artists to show and sell their work.  Check their festivals!!!! Check their educational and training programmes!!!  They are doing this morally and for their funding, they try to make everything eco. They don’t sell straws, or use plastic cups, only have reusable cups at the cafĂ©.  How to influence the visitors in the building/at home/else ware.  They don’t have shareholders; any profit has to go back into serving their function (to educate and inspire people about the arts). They are not a business.  Next year is their 5 th  birthday. They’ve switched to a 100% renewable energy company. Committed to becoming zero sing-use plastic by 2020.  They embed their policies into their training,...

Mindmaps

Here are some mind maps that we all made that were our ideas for home and what they needed Sophie K made the written out ones, I made the colourful ones and Glenn made the page of text.

Moodboards

Here is a mood board of the kind of style that I think we should use for the whatever we do for HOME.  The style would be industrial, wood, metal, and plants, as this is similar to their current aesthetic.

Possible approach ideas

-Roof top garden -Re-model their interior design -Home Mobile application -Kids play area These are some initial ideas that we have come up with for this brief, however each of them have issues. The rooftop garden idea, is for them to have a place that is filled with colour, plants, and recycled wood and plastic that could be made into furniture. The issue with this idea however is that they recently just had a big makeover of their rooftop garden area. Our next idea was to re-model their interior to make it look more eco-friendly. We would do this by creating a 3D model of the building then adding new furniture and decoration to give them a new look and feel. However, they have quite a good interior already, and we wanted to suggest ideas that would actually be possible and they are very unlikely to want this idea. The next idea was to create a mobile application that would include various different things to do with HOME. We thought it would include any of their articles, ...

Qualative research +++++

Qualitative research is a method of observation to gather non-numerical data, such as more in-depth opinions from people, opposed to quantative research which is purely numerical. It is exploratory research and is used to gain an understanding of underlaying reasons. It is used to show attitudes, opinions, behaviours, etc. Things that count as qualitative research is online surveys, paper surveys, mobile surveys, face-to-face interviews, longitudinal studies, website interceptors, online polls, and systematic observations. I found these images on this site: https://www.simplypsychology.org/qualitative-quantitative.html

Quantative research

Quantative research is a way of generating numerical data or data that can be made into usable statistics. There are 4 main types of quantative research designs: descriptive, correlational, quasi-experimental end experimental.  I found this one this website and found it useful. https://www.quora.com/What-are-the-kinds-of-quantitative-research A   Descriptive Design   seeks to describe the current status of a variable or phenomenon. The researcher does not begin with a hypothesis, but typically develops one after the data is collected. Data collection is mostly observational in nature. A   Correlational Design   explores the relationship between variables using statistical analyses. However, it does not look for cause and effect and therefore, is also mostly observational in terms of data collection. A   Quasi-Experimental Design   (often referred to as Causal-Comparative) seeks to establish a cause-effect relationship between two or mo...
